Ah!
Two of my favorites are facing off today. A toss-up according to our algorithm. Let’s dig in a bit...
2-0 for Bellucci, and Bellucci is the underdog here. Both are coming off two great runs even though their results on clay up to now were pretty disastrous. If you haven’t been following: Bellucci switched back into Super Saiyan mode in Rome (like a live wire constantly creating play), and Quentin went off for a solid training camp in La Baule before making a semi at the Bordeaux Challenger.
We all remember that famous Halys / Rune match last year at Roland, and it reminds me just how dangerous the Frenchman can be on fast clay once he’s built up some confidence.
Then, I still feel there’s always some uncertainty around the Italian’s level and commitment. That has to be factored into the odds. If he’s on (meaning, in a fired‑up mode), then anything can happen with him, including flipping a match‑up that doesn’t necessarily suit him. Because yes, he was really bothered by Landaluce’s game in Rome, not helped by physical fatigue, that’s true.
On his side, of course I see his lefty touch, able to pin Quentin on his backhand and especially move him around well. Bellucci’s explosiveness is also interesting for neutralizing Quentin’s power.
On the other hand, the Italian can end up trying to do too much and have a few lapses during his matches, whereas Quentin will often (not always) stay more structured over the course of an entire match.
All in all, I find it hard to picture a one‑way match here, and I think the moneylines are well priced with Quentin as a slight favorite when you look at the match as a whole.
