The Chinese guy is a low-ranked player we want to avoid, he’s capable of anything!

Wu has played some good clay tournaments this season even though he started off really badly in Houston, losing to Bolt. After that he bounced back well and I'm not surprised. Even if he doesn’t really have a clay-courter’s game, he can compensate so much with his talent that he’s able to play well anywhere. He’s a bit like Basilashvili, who hits so hard that he stops his opponents from playing. Some nice wins for Wu and a convincing level, but only at Challenger level and nothing more. The other problem is that he hasn’t played since Aix and pulled out of Bordeaux, which is really strange, especially since there were other tournaments afterwards. Maybe it’s a recurring injury? Because we know with Wu it’s mainly his physical condition you have to be wary of.

We’ve got a bit more info on Giron, who played Hamburg this week, and he was true to himself! Loss in a deciding tie-break in qualifying against a local, then another loss in a deciding tie-break against Shelton after that! It’s just classic Giron, he plays really well but he loses a ton of matches at the wire because he’s a professional choker. But I really liked the level. He’s a pain to beat, obviously clay isn’t his best surface, it’s even his worst without a shadow of a doubt, but you have to beat him twice in a Grand Slam, he likes long battles.

With his weak second serve and Wu’s over-aggressiveness as soon as there’s a neutral ball, I think the Chinese player could have a shot in this match, but the doubts about his fitness put me off.
