Time to flex those muscles!
A nice opportunity for two players who’ve been struggling a bit
Berrettini is slowly collapsing bit by bit and what I’m seeing in his matches really doesn’t reassure me, he’s almost switched off and admitted he was struggling mentally a little while ago. It’s new for him and it’s serious, since that steely mindset was his strength. He’s struggling to get the machine going again as they say, and it has to be said that this has been going on for a while… His only recent wins have been laboured, and then he “logically” loses as soon as he runs into a solid guy. Big performances from Berrettini are getting rarer and rarer, and I’m not sure Roland is where he’s going to find his form again. It’s already a tournament he hasn’t played since 2021, and I don’t really like the conditions for him. But well, we’ve seen champions bounce back in Slams, so why not.
The other player who needs to get going again, or rather to get going in the first place, is Fucsovics. The Hungarian is being dragged down by little injuries that stop him from playing tournaments, he seems to be struggling to get out of it. He’s only played three matches on clay this year and has three losses! He lost to Tabilo, Carreno and Prizmic, not helped by the draws either, and he pulled out of another tournament again last week. It’s hard to trust him, but we know his ability to deliver huge matches in Grand Slams, he’s already pulled that off several times and I see a decent draw for him this time, which could help him get back to winning ways.
