The Czech rocket against the Greek ghost on land

Linda Nošková, 21 years old, WTA No. 12, coached by Tomáš Krupa and Lukáš Dlouhý, is one of this clay season’s breakout players. QF in Stuttgart, QF in Madrid where she beat Gauff, R4 in Rome. Her three losses on clay in 2026 have come against Svitolina, Kostyuk and Cirstea, all in great form. She has never been beaten by an average player. Tall frame at 1.79m, devastating serve with 6.7 aces per match, she holds 77.2% of her service games on clay and handles key moments with a Breakpoints Prevail of 1.429. Her only real weakness on this surface: 42.9% conversion rate on break points; she creates chances but doesn’t always finish them. Best result here: R2 in 2023 and 2024; she has never gone beyond that stage at Roland-Garros.

Maria Sakkari, 30 years old, WTA No. 48, coached by Tom Hill who returned after the David Witt interlude, is the former world No. 3 whose 2021 semi-final here remains her only major Parisian reference. But 2026 tells a very different story. 1–5 on WTA clay over the last 52 weeks, R1 here in 2024 and 2025, and 3–7 in her last ten matches. Her latest outing in Strasbourg: a loss to Stearns. Her 2026 clay metrics are disastrous: Match Efficiency at 0.446, Dominance Ratio at 0.561, only 58.8% of service games won. She does have a real edge in break point conversion at 56.5% and good reading of return patterns in tight moments, but she hardly creates any chances: only 0.46 break points per game.
