The Kokki is back!
We thought he was done, fed up with tennis, but it really looks like Thanasi has found the joy again!
Spotted training on the courts of the Mouratoglou Academy, the Australian is therefore back after his shoulder injury. You know, the one that’s been bothering him for several years. He played doubles at the Australian Open with Kyrgios, then said he was no longer taking any pleasure in playing with that pain. Since his return, he’s played a Challenger, won two matches, then pulled out “to avoid taking risks,” according to him.
To play Roland, he’s using a protected ranking.
I’m pretty torn between: the guy still has a hell of a level and he’s already pulled off some crazy stuff for us at Roland. And: playing a Grand Slam on clay might not be the best way to ease back into things.
And of course, there’s the prize money. But here, he’ll have to play 3 hours against a lefty who’s going to blast heavy shots into his backhand (and therefore above the shoulder).
I’d add that Terence totally choked the last two years at Roland. Either he gets his revenge thanks to the very good level he’s shown this year on clay, or he sinks.
