The American woman celebrates her birthday on the soil of Paris

Today, May 25, Claire Liu is celebrating her 26th birthday on the courts of Roland-Garros. A detail that says something about her unusual trajectory: a former world No. 1 junior after her Wimbledon juniors title in 2017, she took years to find her footing on the professional tour. In 2024, she took a break after that same Roland-Garros, ended an eight-year relationship with her coach Chris Tontz, and undertook personal work whose steps she documents on her personal blog, aptly titled "Finding Claire-ity." Clarity seems to have fully returned in 2026: a WTA 125 title in Trnava in May, 9–1 over her last ten matches, eight wins in a row. Liu outclasses Uchijima on absolutely every performance indicator on this surface.
