Not at all the second round that was expected.

We were expecting a great Lehecka/Atmane match, but instead we’ll get Kokkinakis versus Carreno Busta, which is less exciting but deserved.

The returning Kokkinakis was almost at the point of not playing at Roland Garros. Apparently, he was questioning it. Is he going to give us his classic win and then retire or pull out in the next round? I have no idea. In any case, he served very well and played at a very high level over the 5 sets. If we could be sure he could follow up without pain and without really doubting his physical condition, I think his odds would be interesting, but with him, we have to be very cautious before the match.

To a lesser extent, it’s a bit the same with Carreno Busta, who had an issue in Valencia and even surprised himself with his performance against Lehecka here, given he hadn’t really been able to train properly since then. I was surprised by his level too; he produced a magnificent performance, even if Lehecka completely missed his match. The Spaniard seems to have been farming challengers for a while now and still looked in good shape. I’d say he gives a bit more certainty because he’s already fresher. But Kokkinakis is capable of playing at a very high level.
