Spaniard VS earthling
After an energy-draining 5-set match from both players in R1, who’s got the advantage?
Yes, everyone had to put in the work, and each of them deserves to be there. Still, I think Kopriva is the most deserving. Beating Moutet here is really tough. Sometimes it costs you the next match. But Kopriva seemed to be holding up well! Unless he hid his fatigue really well.
His opponent, on the other hand, didn’t hide it. And I’m a bit torn between “the guy is burned out” and “the hardest part for him is getting through the first round, after that he gains momentum.” One thing’s for sure, Kopriva inspires more confidence when you see how strong he was mentally, whereas Landaluce kept cracking every time it was time to close it out.
In terms of match‑up, we’ve got a Kopriva who sometimes doesn’t like it when the pace is too fast, but when he’s on, he really plays his card as a clever counterpuncher. He’ll need to hit to Landaluce’s backhand very often so he doesn’t get blasted, and so he can stay on his own strong shot.
