From a distance, I get the impression that their matches start off pretty tight, even with a better Giron calling the shots, then the American gradually drops his level against Agut’s metronomic game. When I think about it, it’s true that if you manage to properly neutralize Giron’s game from the baseline, what does he really have left? That said, I have absolutely no memory of those matches, and I can’t put them back in their context.

Otherwise, you probably know this already, but grass suits their games very well. Giron wins his only main-tour ATP title on grass, in Newport in 2024. And Agut must have one of the best win/loss ratios on tour with almost twice as many wins as losses.

What’s more, both players need to redeem themselves after their clay-court season. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve been practicing a lot on this surface. They’re exactly the kind of players who can go far in a pre-Wimbledon tournament.

For a first match, it’s hard to pick between them. The match-up seems to favor RBA. I’m being cautious at the start of the grass season, but to me this match looks like a good old-fashioned coin flip!
