The Spaniard has not only really stepped up this season, but his results last year, for what was his first and only season on grass, are pretty encouraging in my opinion. The small hitch with him is that he seems to have picked up the bad habit of starting his tournaments a bit in diesel mode, but hey, maybe, like for Nadal, the grass will force him not to overthink.

Aside from this dilemma, I don’t see what could justify such odds for a player whose tennis is better than P2H’s.

The match-up? Not really, in my opinion. P2H’s experience? Probably a bit, yes. A bit more with the two qualifying matches he has in his legs. But still, P2H was a huge favorite. And me, what I mainly remember is that against Sonego at Roland, he was a bit overwhelmed by his opponent’s power. The Spaniard plays pure attacking tennis. He really cooled down the ambitions of a Cilic at Roland who was putting him under pressure. And that Roland run potentially gave him a lot of confidence, along with that tough-to-swallow narrow defeat that usually sends you back to work with a knife between your teeth.
