From high-altitude clay to home turf grass!
Once known for his fast clay game, Yannick never lets himself be beaten easily on grass, and even less so at home.
A beautiful first round full of realism for Yannick, who beats Kovacevic in two tiebreaks. He’s up and running now, and there’s that famous X factor at home that works really well for him.
On the other side, Mattia Bellucci was up to his antics again. He retired from doubles last week with a shoulder pain after getting thrashed in singles. Here, in his R1, he drops off a bit in set 2 before becoming unplayable in set 3 and getting past Foki. This guy is capable of anything. On grass, he can hang in from the baseline, blast a bomb at any moment, throw himself around, serve well… In short, for me his highs on grass are really high and a pain for a lot of players. But his ups and downs against German discipline and realism scare me. We’re not dealing with Fokina anymore here!
