A match that contains several others.
It's already a rematch of their first-round meeting at Roland-Garros, but also a rematch of their clash right here in Halle in 2025.
For those who didn’t see their match at Roland-Garros, Marozsan was excellent in the first set and super aggressive in his game, which really bothered Kecmanovic. But the Hungarian got extremely hot in this match and clearly dropped in intensity. I find the match-up rather good for Marozsan because he has time to set up his game and be the one dictating the rallies. Kecmanovic is a good counterpuncher who can also play fast, but he’s not the kind of player who will constantly rush him and attack excessively from the very first shots. That’s why Marozsan is relatively comfortable, I’d say.
The problem is that on grass, Marozsan is really not good. He genuinely struggles with the surface and has a fear of slipping that you can feel. I watched his match in Stuttgart against Onclin and, even if the qualifier played a fairly decent match, I didn’t find him outstanding. It was mainly Marozsan who was completely lost as soon as he had to make the slightest lateral move. On grass that’s just as slippery and fast, I think he’s going to be in big trouble as soon as he has to defend a bit. I also remember very well their match here in Halle in 2025, and Marozsan produced an absolutely legendary performance like only he can, saving 10 out of 10 break points and winning at the end of an exceptional match. We know him, he’s capable of pulling off matches like that, but overall, his level is fairly average at the moment and I really don’t like grass for him.
Kecmanovic isn’t great on grass either, but he moves just a little bit better and knows how to play on the return, not relying only on his attacking skills. It bothers me a bit because he comes here without any matches under his belt, and that’s very important on this surface. I’m quite undecided. On the one hand, I think Marozsan really isn’t suited to this surface, but on the other hand, Kecmanovic is already rated quite low and I’m not sure he deserves to be this low.
