It looks like retirement is getting further away for the almost 38-year-old Croat. It even seems like he’s still improving, it’s crazy. On the other hand, his recent matches on grass have been in two phases, with a first part where he needed a set to really get into it. From a sluggish player prone to unforced errors, he turns into a real shark who doesn’t give up a single point and fires low, powerful shots all over the place. It’s going to be fun, given Ugo’s profile!

Strangely, Ugo really has bad stats here. He only plays the tournament twice, but still. Maybe each match was tricky, I don’t remember. In ’s-Hertogenbosch, he beats a very weak Ymer, before losing to a Bonzi who was tactically perfect. Ugo never gave up, but one thing is certain for me: he wasn’t at his prime. He’s missing something at the moment. I feel like he’s stagnating. Sometimes he pulls out crazy matches (see Kopriva or Khachanov recently), but those remain isolated events.
