Listen, I still have a feeling here that Shapo is going to really get back into it hard this week. I really believe in a player’s form right after he’s taken a real heavy hit that hurts mentally. I’m thinking of Tsitsipas winning Dubai after losing to a one-legged Medjedovic in Doha. There’s the option where he collapses a bit more, where he hasn’t dug himself a deep enough hole yet before bouncing back. But I think we’re already very low at this point…

Opposite him, a real grass-court rascal. The Englishman Pinnington Jones has the full grass-court player kit: light on his feet, mobile, good sense of the game, experience, grit. He won a Challenger last year and beat Cobolli at Wim. This year, the results aren’t there yet, but I already found him decent against Vukic in Birmingham. He’ll be the local guy with the X factor, the player most used to the conditions, and the one who’ll be the most stable mentally. In short, he’s the perfect trap for Shapo in his current state.

If Shapo shows up having at least tidied his room a bit, which I believe he will, then he’ll win. But my reasoning is mainly based on his reaction, not on Pinnington Jones’s level.
