Moutet, this smells bad
6th consecutive singles loss for Coco Moutet, and a withdrawal in doubles at the last tournament. This stinks...
I tend to say that shit never comes alone, and right now we’re right in the middle of it. Injured in his right wrist (and maybe elsewhere too), Corentin sadly admits he sacrificed his body by playing in the 2025 Davis Cup. To be fair, he ran into Kopriva at Roland and a good Kyrgios in Stuttgart. But the content of his last match wasn’t great. Nothing super alarming, enough to play decently, but at 80%, unfortunately, with how dense the tour is, it’s not easy.
On the other side, GMP is playing better and better. I like it when he plays on slightly slower grass. He got through two qualifying rounds and had some good matches in Stuttgart. His qualies here at Queen’s were clean, since he didn’t drop a set and didn’t play a single tie-break! He’s on an upward trend despite all his issues with coaches and injuries.
No previous head-to-head between the two, but of course we think about Moutet’s touch game. Giovanni’s style won’t make him overuse his wrist too much, but still. It’ll depend on the odds before I decide what to do here...
