Coco is enjoying herself in Mallorca.

A finalist last year and a quarter-finalist in 2023, this tournament has a special significance for our Frenchman.

Could this be the start of an upswing for Moutet? The clay season was difficult, and even if he only had one win on grass, you can’t really say he got very good draws. He faces Kyrgios, then beats Mpetshi and loses to Fokina. I still really liked his two matches at Queen’s. I feel like he’s starting to play well again. Since Mallorca is a tournament that could potentially suit him, I’d be wary of him all week. I also think the draw is a bit kinder this time, with Fucsovics who, for once, is really not in good form either.

The Hungarian has been hampered for several weeks because of an arm/shoulder injury, and it doesn’t seem to be completely behind him yet. He was diminished against FAA in Hertogenbosch, then he didn’t play a great match against Nakashima at Queen’s. There are still double faults, and I really don’t feel like he’s very confident right now or that he’s willing to push himself. I get the feeling he’s drifting through matches like a ghost, to be honest. I really don’t get the sense that he’s building momentum, unlike Moutet.

It’s two-all in the head-to-head, the matches are tight, and as I said, I don’t think it’s a very bad match-up for Moutet, who will still be able to impose his game and dictate the pace. With the heat forecast for tomorrow, I also think we’ll have to keep a very close eye on Fucsovics, who really isn’t a physical powerhouse. He has huge drops in intensity during matches and he doesn’t like the heat much. Coco really has a great opportunity tomorrow.
