We've seen a bunch of Americans, whether in Stuttgart or Halle, and it's not really a surprise to still have two of them in the final. They like grass and fast conditions.

I’m going to talk directly about the head-to-head between these two players, since it’s the perfect indicator to judge the match ahead of us. I’ve been going on and on about Tiafoe’s poor returning quality, and obviously that’s once again going to be my number one concern for him in this matchup. Firstly, because he takes a lot of aces and really struggles to get returns in play against big servers, and secondly, because Fritz is simply one of the best servers in the world. The American can hit all the spots. He knows how to mix it up, hit flat, slice. In short, for me this is yet another match where, if Fritz serves properly, he’s supposed to be completely comfortable on his service games. He leads 7–1 against Tiafoe, and his only loss was in their very first meeting back in 2016. Since then, Fritz has always come out on top. He’s just taken out Zverev and is building up a ton of confidence. After his final in Stuttgart last week, and given his form, he’s a big favorite in my eyes.

On the other side, we’ve got Tiafoe, who’s having a very good tournament. But I feel like he’s really maximizing both his draw and his level of play. It’s not that he doesn’t deserve to be here, but he’s had a very comfortable path, and his biggest win is against FAA, saving multiple match points. He just beat Altmaier for a spot in the semifinals. That’s not the same level as Fritz, who took out Zverev, for example. And sure, it’s not his fault how the draw turned out and he is winning his matches, but it’s still something to take into account, in my opinion. I like Big Foe, but I feel like he’s a step below in terms of tennis level compared to Fritz, who’s also moving well and strong on this surface. The match-up won’t help him at all, and I’m not sure he’ll be able to find the answers.
