A Molcan away from his home turf
The left-hander is often seen as a trap to deal with on clay courts, but what about on other surfaces?
No matches on this surface since 2023 and not exactly big wins in qualies, he only took out Sesko and Cassone, so it’s fair to say he probably made the difference with his level rather than with a game specifically suited to grass, but I didn’t see the matches. I think he could still be a pain to play this week, conditions are tough and we saw guys like Navone or Vallejo fight really hard today. A guy like Molcan could become really annoying to beat tomorrow if he manages to impose his rhythm.
Marozsan is still a clear favorite on this surface but he doesn’t really master it, he moves very poorly on it and likes to have time to set up his game. I do think the match-up is nice for him though, Molcan defends and makes you play, but he’s not going to take time away from him. A Marozsan in offensive mode and ready to attack hard really speaks to me. I’m putting a big warning on his physical condition in the heat though, we saw at Roland a few weeks ago that it was hard for him to last in those conditions. If the match drags on he might crack, but I’m afraid it’ll be way too one-sided for it to actually get to that point.
