It's straight ahead for Foki

The Spaniard seems destined to finally go get his title, and winning it at home would be beautiful

Given his level of play and a favorable draw, things are starting to look really good for Fokina, but he still has two matches to win. His tennis is solidly in place and his attitude as well, everything seems to be clicking right now and it’s anything but a surprise given what he’s been showing in recent weeks. He’s now in great form, fully launched into his tournament and with less pressure than at the start, all systems are go.

The lights have also turned green for Marozsan, who started his tournament with quite a bit of luck and without really playing his best tennis, but the Hungarian has straightened things out nicely and has just produced his best match in the quarters against Kecmanovic. Good serving, powerful and precise on both wings, if you let him play too much he hurts you badly. His game is still risky though; we know he can suddenly stall at any moment, whereas on the other side Foki seems solid and ready to string matches together without too many dips in level. The Spaniard’s game could work really well against Marozsan: I like his mix of defense/counterpunching and intensity, with a real ability to absorb pressure then accelerate. He’s supposed to be able to hang in there long enough before really hurting Marozsan with one big strike.

I’m still very optimistic for Fokina, but I also know that Marozsan sometimes produces insanely hot matches where there’s just nothing you can do. We’ll see tomorrow how it plays out.
