The Van Assche trap?
Sometimes it’s better to be confident than to be trained on grass!
Luca Van Assche has just won the Parma Challenger and, in doing so, secured himself direct qualification into the main draw of the US Open. Job done, he can play without pressure at Wim! But Luca, what’s he like on grass? Very little experience, and a shaky serve, but a low center of gravity that gives him good movement. Still, with his serve, unfortunately, the surface where he can do the most damage is clay. He changed his serve two years ago if I remember correctly, to gain power. Anyway, the angle of analysis here is simple: Luca will do everything he can to drag Marton into a physical battle so that the Hungarian cracks with an injury.
Indeed, Fucso has been losing a lot lately because of a bothersome shoulder. The Hungarian generally saves himself for the Grand Slams, tournaments he particularly enjoys and where he’s often a fierce outsider!
With the fast early-week grass, he has a chance to pull through. The problem is that no one but him knows where he’s at. He got thrashed by Nakashima before withdrawing due to “illness.” He’s going to give everything in this match...
