Here we go again!
Brooksby gets his revenge in Eastbourne by beating Vukic in 2 sets. And now? Do we believe in the so‑called rule that “it’s hard to beat the same guy twice in a row?”
I'm taking the liberty of copying and pasting the summary of the 2026 Eastbourne match that I wrote: "In the end, I didn’t really see value in Vukic’s win. The Australian looked a bit short physically, and Brooksby played better than I expected. Starting with the pressure he put on return, which surely contributed to Vukic’s very low first-serve percentage. Then, in the high-tempo baseline rallies, it was more often Brooksby who won the points thanks to a better-quality backhand and a higher VO2 max. I’m sometimes surprised to see Vukic choose to blast a big shot on the run rather than hit a defensive slice. That’s his game, but to me it’s also a sign of weaker movement."
What could change at Wimbledon? The temperatures, for a start. The Australian was moving less well in Eastbourne. The temperatures made the ball travel a bit faster. At Wimby, we’re going to drop back down to around 25°C from Monday, but the courts are a bit faster than in Eastbourne.
I’m trying to see where I could be wrong, but I really struggle to imagine Vukic flipping the match-up. It’s a best-of-five format, so he should be even less of a favorite in my view. Of course, Brooksby’s level can vary a lot from one tournament to another, but if he comes out at above 1.5, he’ll be value for me (though I don’t really believe that will happen …)
