Prizmic was generally low-priced in most of his clay matches, with good reason. But what about on grass now?

Since Roland Garros, there really hasn’t been much to get our teeth into on the Prizmic front. He only played the qualifying rounds at Queen’s and lost to Hijikata after serving for the match. Grass was a new experience for him, or almost. I think we can say it’s convincing in terms of the result, even if I didn’t see the match. I’m half surprised because instinctively you’d say Prizmic doesn’t have a big serve, exceptional power, or an inspired net game. So you tend to think he won’t be a top player on grass, but let’s not forget there are also lighter profiles who can be very effective on this surface. They manage it in particular thanks to their movement and because, once you take serving quality out of the equation, the game isn’t as fast on grass as people think. I want to see more, but to me, Prizmic can fall into that second category and really bother a lot of players.

Walton falls into the first category: the type of player you immediately label as a potential danger on this surface because he serves very well and knows how to attack hard. He’s not a player who shines through exceptional qualities, but through solid, well-constructed tennis and a simple yet formidable game. I was able to watch him in Mallorca last week where he came through qualifying and really pushed Davidovich Fokina. If Fokina hadn’t been playing his best tennis, he would have lost his set, or even more. Walton is confident right now, but I’m not convinced he’s actually that good on grass. Mallorca was more like a surface similar to a fast hard court than real fresh grass like Wimbledon, where the bounce is low and the court speed is a bit slower. I think we have two players with very different profiles, and one of them might not be as good on this surface as people think.

I see Prizmic as a player who’s just so much better than Walton, but he lacks experience on this surface. I’m waiting to see his results at the exhibition before Wimbledon to have a more clear-cut opinion, but in principle, I think he’s totally capable of already beating a player like Walton.
