Mochi the herbivore

With his pure "grass-court" tennis, the Japanese player offers a game that unsettles many opponents. Will that be the case for Ethan Quinn?

Not for me. Why? Because Quinn’s cannonball style is a wonderful vaccine against Michizuki’s creative, net-rushing game. Ok Wim, it’s not the fastest grass. But when you see that even Fokina struggles to contain Quinn’s power, I don’t have much hope for Mochi. Sure, the American doesn’t really have much of a plan B. But at what point is the Jap going to be able to string together chip-and-charge returns when Quinn is firing rockets on serve? And same thing in the rallies. Already, if you play to his forehand, you’re exposing yourself. And since Quinn knows very well how Mochizuki plays, he’s going to push his ‘hit or miss’ game to the extreme so he never lets the Japanese player’s creativity settle in.

So that’s my theory. Do you agree with it? To me it’s almost an allegory of our society, like how capital will very often win out over talent and hard work. But yeah, I’m drifting off here…
