Profiles that can look alike in several ways!

Majchrzak is still more experienced, especially in this tournament where he reached the round of 16 last year, but also with a great momentum since the return of the grass-court season. The Pole has prepared his Wimbledon well and has just delivered a very controlled win against Tabilo in the first round. We have a pretty clear idea of what to expect from him tomorrow and in this tournament in general. I like his game on grass: he knows how to play smart, make the ball move, and take advantage of the very particular bounce to throw his opponents off.

Svajda can also be put in that category, even if the American is much more of a "puncher" from the baseline. He likes to hit hard and go for the winner rather than play with angles and different speeds. In his case, he didn’t really prepare for Wimbledon properly, but he was sick and also had to deal with the aftermath of Roland Garros, which was mentally demanding for him. I don’t really have an issue with his game on grass though; his track record on the surface from last year is enough to see how well he can play on it. I’m expecting a good performance from him, like in the first round, but this time against a more dangerous opponent.

As much as we’re almost certain about Majchrzak and what he can bring, Svajda can either completely miss the mark or have exceptional phases; his erratic profile appeals to me a bit less here. Even though he beat Majchrzak on grass last year, the momentum and form have changed a lot since then, and it’s the Pole who’s coming in as the boss.
