Zizou is forging his own path
The Belgian is on fire right now, on a 7-game winning streak!
After his title in Eastbourne he needed to quickly get used to the Wimbledon courts and recover properly. After a good battle against Humbert it was another fight against Faria, and Bergs’ level was still high; he had some good low phases but overall it was good. He says his legs are starting to feel heavy though; at the same time the sequence is tough and he relies a lot on his physicality in his game. I’m also afraid of a mental blow-up at some point, he’s a nervous player who needs to be in a good headspace to maintain his level. Once again he’s going into a match where he’s the favourite, it’s a great opportunity but he has to be careful not to underestimate Fery, who is deadly on grass.
The Brit moves extremely well on this surface and plays remarkable counterpunching tennis. He’s just come through against Virtanen in a tricky match where he had to be patient and pounce on every slightest opportunity on the return, a really good win. I think the upcoming matchup against Bergs is even nicer for him: he should be a bit more present on the return (but also under more pressure on serve) and logically there will be a lot more long, hard-fought rallies. I like his profile; he’s going to force Bergs to push his game and he’ll make him work physically as well.
Over the distance I think Fery can manage to throw Zizou off his game but also make him dig deep mentally and physically; I believe in the Brit’s chances!
