SoneGOAT or nothing
We’re going to need the best version of the Italian to do something here because Fritz on grass is really, really tough
Fritz has been perfect at the start of this tournament and given how well his preparation went, he’s one of the favorites here, not far behind the very top contenders. He’s experienced, good on this surface, and in form – he’s a tough opponent. So far he’s had no problems in the early rounds, but the opposition was fairly weak; tomorrow there’ll be a bit more resistance!
Sonego is a Grand Slam player, he knows how to raise his tennis level but also his physical and mental level; everything is better for him in these tournaments and he’s proving it again. He’s just beaten Etcheverry and then Diallo, which I think is already a pretty nice list of scalps. His match against Diallo was especially impressive in terms of consistency: despite the length of the match and the five sets, there were really very few moments when his tennis dropped, whether on serve or in open play. He’s delivering and will be tough to beat in the next round, the problem is that there’s simply someone better on the other side of the net…
Fritz leads the H2H 7–2; his only two losses to him are on clay and they’re from a while back, the American has a serious advantage. He serves better, defends better, and attacks just as well; he’s supposed to come through this. I’ve already seen some big matches from Sonego this week and he’ll surely be good again tomorrow, but for how long?
