The eternal crier
Zverve still has a problem, his poor nose is all stuffed up...
He says it doesn’t affect his tennis but still points it out anyway... I’m not going to dwell on it! For now Zverev is serious at the start of his tournament even if he gave up a break at the end of the match against Royer and his third set was really not great. He’s still confident and keeps a good margin over a bunch of players thanks to his serving quality but also now his experience. I’m not ruling out laying him as soon as the right opportunity comes up, but you still need the right opponent…
Yeah, because on paper Giron really isn’t our guy. The American can be tricky on grass with his flat shots, but is that particularly effective against Zverev? Not at all, quite the opposite. Zverev leads the H2H by a wide margin and even more clearly on grass: a quick win at Wimbledon and another one last year in Halle. Scores that one-sided on grass are no coincidence. Giron already doesn’t like big servers, and he also runs into a problem from the baseline since he’s less tenacious than the German… Hard to picture a match where he manages to do more than he usually does.
The only scenario where he pulls off the upset would be if we see a much worse Zverev and Giron plays his best tennis in a nothing-to-lose mindset. It’s possible, but it’s less likely than seeing another easy win for Z.
