Another match with great suspense today...

Two huge warriors are going to battle it out to the bitter end here. And the Roland finalist and outsider… Makes sense on grass, right?

Yes, ok. We agree. His wide serve has less bite, and so does the spin on his forehand. Against Navone, he struggled a bit to make the difference from the baseline and came to the net very little. Against Duckworth, he scrambled in defense and ended up wearing his opponent down with sheer toughness.

Against Khachanov, who was very enjoyable to watch against Hanfmann, sure, I think we’re in for a really big match. The Russian has that advantage on serve, but he’s lost some power and some of his clutch factor. Once the rally starts, they’re going to BEAT THE HELL out of each other, believe me!

The Russian does have the advantage of knowing how to play at the net a bit better, but he’s far from being a benchmark there. He’s mediocre this year compared to his usual level. He’s clearly lost a bit of his edge, even in Grand Slams, where he usually excels. Whereas Cobolli, yes, it’s a bit labored on grass, I agree. But this guy knows how to win big matches this year. And my analysis here is simply to tell you that you shouldn’t write him off just because we’re on grass.
