THE Match !
Explosive showdown that’s worth watching; even if you’re not betting on it, it’s a match you don’t want to miss!
Between the very serious Auger-Aliassime, who’s becoming more consistent, and a Fokina who’s currently on fire on grass, this is a match that promises a lot. Auger’s start to the tournament has been perfect so far, he hasn’t dropped a set, and that’s a good sign when you know how capable he is of getting himself bogged down for no reason. But I’d like to see a bit more because so far he’s only beaten players he was better than. Zheng was supposed to be a slightly tougher test, but the American was clearly out of gas after one set, he’d done his tournament. FAA will need to be very sharp at the start of the match because the level is going to jump all of a sudden tomorrow. He’s playing Fokina, the Spaniard is on fire and Fucso says that right now he’s the best player on grass.
Saying he’s the best is a bit much, but the Spaniard is easily in the top group. He also has an impressive engine physically and is reassuring in how well he handles back-to-back matches, he feels strong and wants to keep winning. For once I think his wins at this tournament are really impressive, he hasn’t lost a set against JM Cerundolo, Marozsan, and Fucsovics, he’s cruising like a boss. He’s coming in under the best possible conditions to try to beat FAA. Historically their meetings are always tight, FAA leads 4–1 but there are always over sets and tie-breaks. I don’t think it’s a bad match-up for Foki as such, the matches are decided on nothing, I even think that with his intensity and his movement quality on grass he’s going to really give Felix a hard time, so Felix had better serve well.
This is shaping up to be a huge match, Fokina has fire in his arm right now and his brain is well connected, everything is going his way and in that state he’s terrifying...
