The Z in GOAT mode
Second semi with another huge favorite. Z played an indecent match against a Fritz still injured in his right knee. His serve is flawless. His aggressiveness, unthinkable just 6 months ago. And his confidence. He doesn’t dare say it, but that Roland title gives him a lot of powers.
So he’ll be a really tough opponent to beat for Arthur Fery. Even if, on paper, Fery’s old man has arguments. He’s very complete and can adopt several tactics. Starting with the one he used against Cobolli: the moped. The Brit has truly insane court coverage, which even Cobolli’s forehand bombs struggled to pierce through. If he can get the Z’s serve back in play, he could force him into a playmaker role, which is less the Z’s strength, as he prefers to play super solid tennis with well-timed accelerations. Plus, Arthur can be aggressive: taking the ball early in the rally, serve-and-volley, good touch… The guy is not here by accident!
It would have been super boring against the monolithic Zverev we used to know, but now, the German also knows how to be aggressive and come finish at the net. He’s never played this well on grass in his life. And with just the quality of his serve, he’s already winning a set or two.
