The Dangerous Qualifier?
Lautaro Midon is not a guy we see often in ATP main draw events...
I watched him in qualifying and found him solid; he won matches that he was supposed to win and did not drop a set. It looked like he was about to get sent home swiftly against Diaz Acosta, but he was able to completely turn the match around and win in three sets! It was quite weird; he started playing really well and aggressively and completely took over the match. I do think he benefited from Facundo becoming a bit slow and leggy after having played a lot of tennis, because there was not that much resistance in the third set, especially. He will now be facing his third left-hander in a row... Marcondes, Diaz Acosta, and now Tabilo. That's definitely a good thing; he should be accustomed to the lefty patterns now! Tabilo is a player who can run really hot or have rather long cold streaks... not a very consistent player. Right now, I would say he is a bit on the "cold" side. We saw today, Wednesday, how dangerous the qualifiers can be when they get some confidence, especially when they face a player coming in with a BYE (Travaglia absolutely destroyed Navone). However, Travaglia is someone who has a lot more experience and has played on the main tour in the past... Midon really doesn't have that much experience in ATP main draws. Though he seems quite relaxed, about to watch Argentina - England with Tirante in their national jerseys ;)
