An open draw.
Wong has just knocked out Lehecka and is potentially opening up the rest of the tournament for himself. It's a winnable quarterfinal, even though it's a completely different type of matchup.
After a difficult start from Wong in the first set with only 40% first serves, he managed to raise his level and never got broken again for the rest of the match. He’s very diligent on his service games. He serves well for his height and really capitalizes on it. I think he flies a bit under the radar because he hasn’t really had a big breakout, but his average level of play is solid. He’s a reliable player, someone you can count on, who always shows up in Grand Slam qualifying. And now, he’s just pulled off his first big recent result. Even if in the past, he had already put together some great tournaments.
On the other side of the net, we have a player much more used to this level of competition in Brooksby. It’s already been a few weeks that you can feel the American is slowly getting back to his level. And this is the kind of tournament where he can go all the way and win a title, for example; I think it really suits his style. The relatively slow conditions work in his favor. He doesn’t get rushed too much, and since tactically he’s above average, he manages to handle his matches really well. For now, he hasn’t had any big matches. He maybe didn’t impress as much as Wong did in his win over Lehecka yesterday, but it’s extremely solid. The only aspect where, in general, you really have to keep an eye on him is physically. He’s going to have quite a match on his hands. I think he’s better from the baseline, but Wong has the advantage of such high-quality serving that he can just keep holding and holding.
On paper, it’s quite an open match. Brooksby is clearly the favorite, though, because he has much more experience. I also think he’s finding his rhythm on the return and that he’ll be able to get Wong’s serve back into play a bit. The win seems destined for him.
