Lord Tomic

The seeds are getting dropped quickly in Los Cabos...

Don't worry, though, the GOAT has arrived in the quarterfinals instead! About two weeks ago, he managed to win the Lincoln Challenger, including winning three deciding sets. He had a tough 2h 45 min qualifying match against Miguel Tobon in his open qualifying round, before withdrawing and entering as a LL instead- classic Tomic! He just managed to upset Khachanov with ease, as a 3.50 underdog! We know that Tomic has a good peak and, more than anything, his playstyle is very unique. Khachanov was playing his first match since he had a BYE, and like many other players, he really struggled with the conditions, barely able to hit a first serve. Apart from that, the Russian is a player who is quite... "robotic", so someone who keeps mixing up shots and not giving rhythm like Tomic has the potential to really bother him!

Norrie has been struggling for a long time, but is off to a good start here in Los Cabos. His game works incredibly well in conditions like these; he can just extract errors in tough conditions from his opponents with his own scrappy game. One of his strengths used to be his endurance, and even if it has gotten a bit worse lately, it is still an asset in these kinds of conditions - especially against someone like Tomic, who has also played a decent amount of tennis recently. As for the matchup, what I want to primarily focus on is how much Tomic's playstyle can bother the Brit. Personally, I do not think it will be as effective against Norrie, who also got some good practice against someone who slices a lot in his previous match against Duckworth. I do worry about Lord Tomic's chances if this match drags on, since his fitness is a bit more questionable, he has more tennis in his legs, and Norrie is just a nightmare to face if you are not feeling fresh.
