Delicate...
The issue here is, of course, the Serb’s physical condition. You never really know where you stand with him. I don’t remember the exact rules for participation in Masters 1000 events based on the ranking; maybe he’s a bit constrained. He pulled out of Estoril because of a virus. Right now, he has ups and downs every season. We often reach a point early in the year where he has to go back to playing Challengers to rebuild confidence. Then it all picks up again and everyone thinks once more that he’s playing at a top-20 level, and then it drops off. There’s his physical condition, obviously, his injuries, it’s really tricky. With his game, he’s already done it twice: he can beat an Argentine who’s underestimated on hard courts. But he can also get stuck in a quagmire against a player who’s going to send the ball back as many times as possible and even go after him. And if the Argentine plays at a very high level and mixes clever, solid defense with disruptive forehands, that’s something that can throw the Serb off. Seriously and methodically attacking high loopy balls and slices, and then suddenly getting a huge shot right in your face. He can find himself in a somewhat uncomfortable situation. Given that we haven’t seen him for a long time and we have to make a big assumption about him, and that the Argentine is also in a phase where he’s playing less well, with maybe, as Marcos says, a need for rest or to reset, it all makes for a very weird analysis and a match-up that could swing either way depending on the actual form of each player. I think that apart from watching it live, it’s better to avoid this match considering how many matches there are today.
