The double or the first.

It's a match for a second straight title in Los Cabos for Shapovalov, or the first career title for our Frenchman Gea.

It’s already a successful week for Gea, who was discovering his first ATP semi-final and will now be playing for a title. It’s an opportunity that won’t come around often, unless he manages to keep the same level of play. What I mean is, you don’t just play for a title, you win it. He’ll need to be particularly inspired to get past Shapovalov. Our Frenchman played a good semi-final, managing to force Wong to hit one shot too many; I found Wong looked physically worn out, even though he had played a lot less, and he also mentally let go a bit at the end of the match. Once again, you have to give credit to Gea, who has worn down his opponents physically and mentally all week long, to the point that they’ve ended up completely cracking. The Frenchman was tense in the semi-final, and that was also the case in his previous matches. He sometimes starts a bit slowly or has trouble finishing sets cleanly. That’s worrying before playing his first final. How will he react to the pressure and, above all, how will he handle it if he finds himself in front on the scoreboard?

It’s a bit easier for Shapovalov to be playing this final. His week is already a success as well. Even if he loses now, he doesn’t drop many points and, above all, he’s already won this title before. I think we’re seeing a good version of the Canadian, and for a few weeks now he’s been circling around this level with some fairly encouraging defeats. The level isn’t spectacular, but we’ve got a focused, well-set Shapovalov who’s getting the job done. It’s true that the slow conditions give him the luxury of dictating with his forehand, and he’s also a good returner, let’s not forget that. Gea hasn’t convinced me at all with his serve in his first matches; it’s a bit slow and he doesn’t find his first serve that often. His defensive qualities have limits, especially against a player as powerful as Shapovalov. If the Canadian doesn’t do anything wild, for me he’s a clear favorite in this match.
