A Decent Opportunity for Zheng?

Can the American keep up his nice "breakout season"?

Personally, I like what we are seeing from Michael Zheng so far! He already has 12 Grand Slam matches won so far this year (including qualies), which is not really the norm for someone just getting started on the main tour. We have a tidy player who is well-rounded, seems to be quite mentally solid and clutch as well. Zheng has already gotten seven matches on hardcourt since the grass season ended. One of them was here in Montreal, in qualifying yesterday against Nishikori. He was able to win 6-3, 6-1, which is, of course, nice, but Nishikori was hampered. Regardless, he got a match under his belt in these conditions, and for me, that's a big plus. Why? Well, it seems like players have been struggling with the conditions in the Canadian Masters tournaments for the last few years; I think they were mentioning the balls? I saw it again yesterday in the qualifying matches... it plays fast, and there are a lot of unforced errors due to players mistiming their shots.

As for Kecmanovic, he is more or less back in his (trademarked) form, where he plays decently but loses close matches over and over. A lot of it has to do with the fact that he is just really unclutch; it has been this way forever. I don't hate the matchup for Miomir; I find that he struggles more against players with huge weapons that can just boss him around. His groundstrokes are really good, so he is always dangerous once he gets some time on the ball...
