Tirante's level will matter greatly here, since this match should be firmly on his racket. Chan got through the first round against Gaston, who tends to be a pretty good opponent for most "newcomers", since he is quite inconsistent and he also does not overwhelm you with power or aggression. Apart from that, I've seen Chan in a challenger match against Mochizuki; it was recently in Winnipeg. So yes, my viewing of him is still quite limited, but he seems to be pretty well-rounded and can handle variety quite decently. What these kind of players tends to struggle with when playing against main ATP-tour players is the ability to be consistent and not get too overwhelmed by the opponent's power! Looking from the other side, these kinds of players really suit Tirante. He definitely has some holes in his game (backhand, variety, and tennis IQ mainly), but when he faces an opponent like this, his weaknesses are usually not exposed, since he gets to use his forehand a lot to dictate. If Tirante has recovered somewhat well from his injury, I don't think he could really ask for a better opening round draw! Will we have big enough odds to take a chance on the underdog with the uncertainties around Tirante? Let's check...
