Again???
We've got another Flavio Cobolli with quite a high odds again, when you think about it. The Italian played a bad match on clay recently and then took a vacation. He hasn’t played, but he needed it. Knowing that, there’s no reason to panic. He’s someone who needs to recharge, to find his motivation again so he can give everything in a tournament. In big tournaments, he’s often there. He always shows up, even when he’s tired. He might come back from vacation a bit rusty, a bit messy, needing to get the engine going again. But he’s someone who hangs in there. He’s an excellent counterpuncher. He never lets go. He often plays very well in big tournaments. His style of play — I’m also thinking about his kicked serve out wide on the ad side — is really something interesting against the German’s profile, who only hits flat, direct shots. I find him quite erratic. He embraces his game, which is all about putting pressure with a lot of power. If it doesn’t work, so be it, in a way. It can really unsettle a lot of players. It unsettled a poor Bonzi yesterday. But Cobolli’s strength is that he fights and has this ability to absorb exactly the kind of shots these players hit. Let’s not forget the Italian is top 10 in the world and that if he isn’t completely exhausted from his vacation — because he must have enjoyed it as a fun-loving Latin guy — these odds are really way too high. I’m putting it forward here and you can tell me what you think. But I believe you have to try something here. And if he really is still too much in vacation mode or not ready enough, I won’t regret having taken a chance on him.
