Here we go again!

4th meeting this season for Kecmanovic and Marozsan, we should know what to expect by now!

I think I’ve seen all their matches and you really can’t say Kecmanovic likes this match-up; his only win was at Roland Garros and that was largely thanks to the heat stroke Marozsan had. So why can’t the Serb manage it? Because he’s a pretty good counterpuncher but not super aggressive, and his rhythmic baseline game with no variation is perfect for Marozsan. The Hungarian loves this type of opponent because he can easily use his pace and he simply plays faster than him. Maybe on hard he’ll have a bit less time, but the courts aren’t super fast this week and this match is scheduled for the night session, which is ideal for Marozsan in terms of conditions.

The downside is mainly the Hungarian’s form: he can’t string wins together and is coming off pretty average performances against Arnaldi and Zheng, nothing that really makes you want to trust him. On the other hand, he’s a player who can suddenly produce big matches out of nowhere when you least expect it; he doesn’t really need to build confidence, and as I said, he’s getting a match-up he likes again. Kecmanovic’s form is just a bit better without being great either; he scrapes through a few matches and then loses to stronger opponents. He’s got more rhythm, more matches under his belt in recent weeks; I’m willing to give him the momentum edge, but it’s kind of by default.

He also has the advantage of already having played a first-round match, but the opposition was really weak… A good Marozsan is above him in my opinion, but can we really be sure he’s good right now?
