Too risky?

It’s not too hot in New York at the moment, but humid, that yes. Around 25 degrees with a good chance of rain (if they play on Monday, but Tuesday is kind of the same I think). I’m giving a little weather update because my first concern is Marin’s stamina. In Montreal, and especially in Cincinnati, he didn’t last long. In a best-of-five format, I find it hard to believe in him.

In spite of everything, Rublev is sometimes sufficiently “tennis-stupid” that he’s not clear-headed. With his very even game, and the pressure Cilic puts on you, it’s not easy either. We saw it again during his mixed doubles: as soon as he’s under pressure, he’s really not the guy you want to rely on.

In their most recent matchups, Cilic wins at Roland and at the Australian Open. Two fairly quick surfaces, but that still give you time to set up. As soon as it’s too fast, that favors Rublev. At the US Open, it’s basically fast/medium pace. De Minaur says the ball travels through the air faster. Which is weird with the humidity. It’ll depend on the type of ball used.
