The Hothead vs the Clown
Well, looks like we are in for a treat!
Prepare yourself for the match of the tournament. We have Majchrzak, who is not close to his best but still manages to stay somewhat competitive in the matches. However, when he is playing the important points, he is folding more easily than a piece of paper in the hands of an origami master. What worries me the most is the lack of effort... if there is a shot in a hard-to-reach position, he sometimes does not even attempt to try to get it. It's quite bizarre, really. I get it; he is lacking confidence and cannot match his high level previously this year... but still, show some fight!
Well, I mentioned the word bizarre, and that would be an understatement for whatever on earth Medjedovic is doing lately. He put up no fight whatsoever against JM Cerundolo in Montreal and then played one of the weirdest matches I have ever seen against Trungelliti in Cincinnati. The Argentine was coming from two three-setters in qualification, and somehow he managed to look like the fresh guy the entire match. Medjedovic was basically turning it into some kind of "sick" exhibition match; all he did was serve and spam drop shots, sometimes like five times in a row. Well, either that or just randomly blasting a forehand into the next zip code. If you watched that match, you know exactly what I mean. If you didn't, consider yourself lucky, unless you truly appreciate comedy. I will say that I thought Medjedovic looked even "bigger" than usual and not in shape at all... yes, less so than usual. He did have some kind of virus that kept him out for a while; I guess that's connected...
What is there even to say about the matchup? Honestly, if Medjedovic shows up with some kind of improvement, he has a good chance to beat the Pole who has no confidence at the moment. On the other hand, it's really hard to expect anything from him after that showing in Cincinnati and his matches prior to that. I mean, you could just as easily argue that this is a perfect opportunity for Kamil to get some confidence back. Let's have a look at the odds to see which poisoned chalice we would rather drink ;)
