A qualifier to take advantage of De Minaur’s troubles?
There’s clearly a problem on De Minaur’s side, he’s not playing his best tennis and you can feel he’s tense even if he tries to keep a straight face. To sum it up, his attitude and confidence are very low, and his tennis isn’t effective. He does have some good matches now and then, but you can sense he’s ready to crack at any moment and might lose to opponents because he’s very nervous right now. That said, it’s still been against relatively good and dangerous players. I don’t think we’re at the point where we’d see him lose to Guerrieri, who has no Grand Slam experience and is coming from the qualifiers, after all.
Guerrieri might surprise you, I discovered him during his qualifying matches and I immediately liked him. He’s a short lefty with a game style that’s quite enjoyable to watch. He’s solid from the baseline but also knows how to take the initiative. He serves well for his height and can catch you off guard. Obviously, his overall level of play is well below De Minaur’s, but he’s coming in with three matches already under his belt and he’s already exceeded all his expectations for this tournament. If he suddenly plays his best tennis out of nowhere and De Minaur starts to panic, telling himself he can’t lose to an unknown qualifier, that could create some plot twists.
