Curling, Pickleball, or Tennis?
Which one do you really prefer, Daniil?
We are still waiting... and waiting for you to get back to your level, Meddy! Losses to Botic and Nakashima, players he has dominated without issue in the past. Yeah, even almost dropping a set against Trungelliti, who had spent hours and hours on court and has no weapons. Hey, let's go into Winston-Salem to build some confidence... eliminated in straight sets by Damm in the first round. What is going on? At least we are blessed with some great quotes, as is usually the case. At one point, Meddy was wondering if he should go play doubles in pickleball with Jack Sock instead. Or yeah, even play curling instead (the Russian curling federation/organization made a funny post about it as well). However, does the Medvedev comeback start now!? He gets to face Gaston, which, on paper, is a very winnable round for him. I do think it's a huge positive for him that he faces someone who does not have a lot of power, because that has been one of Medvedev's issues for a while now... he is just getting overpowered by a lot of guys. He doesn't have power himself, and he is not the wall that he used to be.
As for Gaston, I caught his last qualifying match against Colton Smith, and I quite liked his level, at least from the second set and onwards. However, it's a bit of an issue that he took a 6-1 beating in the first set; he tends to have these big dips and momentum swings, which can really hurt against better opponents. At the same time, he is a guy who has played really well in big matches... who can forget that win in Paris against Alcaraz!? I'm not sure he is in his best form quite yet, but the same can definitely be said for Medvedev...
