The choice is simple...

Here we have Toby Samuel qualifying again for the main draw of a Grand Slam. The guy deserves it given his level, but he was in trouble in his last qualifying round against Garin. The Chilean was playing his perfect role as a counterpuncher and passer. Samuel unfortunately doesn’t have a ton of game plans, even if he can play the solid-baseliner card up to a certain level.

So here we are. Machac, as we all know, moves insanely well (when he’s not injured). But he’s more the type of guy who wants to play fast and attack. Not a pure counterpuncher. So either we decide he’s going to manage to cut Samuel off at the pass, or he won’t pull it off because he’s too inconsistent. By cutting him off at the pass, I mean attacking first and stopping him from playing his forward, attacking game. Because when he’s on, Machac plays at 20,000! And the other option, then, is that he wants to play at 20,000 but still makes too many errors (which he did in his last match).
