Let's go for today's final!
And I’m mainly going to talk to you about the match-up here. Because I think both players have got their mojo back. Fery first of all, who’s coming back from a post-Wim break and is quickly finding his level again. And Buse, who was struggling a bit after peaking on clay a few months ago. Of course, as Marcos says, Buse still has some pretty obvious lapses that Fery doesn’t. He mentioned tension in the second set against Bonzi. But apart from that, the guy is incredibly hard to get past and counters brilliantly. And for now, every time it’s gone to a decider he’s pulled himself together, and even done so really well every time! Will that be enough against Fery?
That’s where we get to the match-up, folks. Who’s going to dictate the play? Buse, in my opinion. And that’s what’s going to hurt him. Because that’s where he’s the least consistent. Against a Bonzi who was trying to shorten the rallies, he was quite comfortable. But here, he’s the one with more options, more power. And in a final, maintaining your level consistently matters even more.
So, let’s get to that topic actually. Buse has already won finals, Fery hasn’t. Is that a big deal? Fery showed us a serious ability to stay focused at Wim. Going through what he experienced over there is still more imposing than a final in Winston-Salem, I think. So for me, that’s a non-issue on that front.
