Welcome back, Foki!
It's been a while since we have seen the Spaniard...
There seems to be a pattern. Fokina had a huge year, with many wins and matches played. Musetti had the same thing. Now, they have both been injured a lot this year. It just shows that the tour is very tough; if you put a lot into it, there's a decent chance it will come back to bite you a bit later! From what I remember, ADF tends to come back with a pretty good level of play after he has been out for a while, even though his lack of match fitness can be problematic early on. It's not the easiest conditions to come back into... altitude, fast courts, and brutal humidity. Well, the matchup is excellent for him, at least. Fokina has a really great record against lefties, and his athleticism and all-court game kind of counter Juanma's grinding game. He can impose his own game and move forward to the net to close it out... also taking the ball early, as soon as possible in the rallies, so Juanma starts working his patterns where he can start firing deep balls with heavy spin.
As for the younger Cerundolo brother, I'll repeat what has been said a million times. He's improved a lot on non-clay surfaces, especially his beefed-up serve and groundstrokes. He is one of the better altitude players, perhaps more so on clay, where the spin really kicks off. He had a solid opening round against Zhou... now, can he capitalize on the Spaniard (most likely) needing some time to get back to his best?
