The Story Repeats Itself?
What is left to say about Basilashvili this week?
Basil gets another straight-sets win over Brooksby. He hasn't dropped a set yet, having already won five matches. There is not really anything negative to say about him... If you want to be really picky, it would be that he has saved 0/2 break points the entire week ;) So, if someone were to be able to get into his service games more, it could be potentially troublesome! Is Fokina the right man for that task? According to his 1.40 ML odds, he should be very well suited for it! We have only seen two matches from him so far, but it has been pretty great. Muller came into the match against ADF without having been broken the entire tournament. Then, against ADF, he got dominated. However, I did mention in my preview that Muller might've benefited a bit from young and inexperienced opponents (Cina and Kouame). Still, let's not take anything away from ADF. We know that a fit and motivated Fokina is a top player... he doesn't really have a lot of weaknesses!
So far, Fokina has deserved his price as a favorite in these other matches. Basil has been winning without dropping sets as an underdog all week long. Something has to give. I do think that Fokina could trouble Basil, especially with his good return. But hey, we said that about Brooksby as well. Obviously, Fokina is a much better player than Brooksby, but we are getting a pretty high price on the Georgian now. Enough to once again be on his side?
