Warning Bells?
Should we be worried about Berg's Davis Cup performance?
We are used to seeing the Belgian play at a great level during the team competitions... this time, that was not the case! He barely beat Neumayer and then lost in straight sets to Rodionov. According to his father, he had been dealing with some illness but pushed through, so that explains it a bit. Now, has he had enough time to recover and adjust to the new conditions here in Tokyo?
Lehecka's experience was pretty much the opposite. Winning in the Davis Cup against Shelton and Tien. I do want to point out that he faced the not-best versions of the Americans, both of them kind of worn out from a long and demanding summer in America. Nonetheless, it is a great confidence boost for him; let's see if he can use it to his advantage now in Tokyo. The Czech tends to be quite strong in this kind of firepower matchup against non-elite players. He usually has the upper hand with his serve and firepower. However, we know how Bergs works as well... he can turn up and produce fireworks in big matches, out of nowhere. Bergs played Tokyo last year and had a big comeback win against Tabilo before playing quite well against Alcaraz in the next round. However, I do have some worries if he were to start slow, the match could get away from him fast...
